Once you have a theme, location and guest list organised for your hen party, it’s time to start thinking about invitations. Obviously, when writing your invitations you will need to include the date, time and location of your party, as well as any dress code you may have decided upon. Often people will rely on word of mouth when organising their hen nights, but personalised invitations can add that extra, special touch.
If you are a crafty person, you may want to make the invitations yourself. Your local craft or stationary shop will have a wealth of supplies you can use to make and customise the invitations to look exactly the way you want them. This means that you have total freedom to put whatever you want on them and make it tie in with your theme. You might decide to go all out with glitter and sequins or keep it a little classier, it really is entirely up to you.
If you don’t have the time to make your own invitations, but still want something personal, there are many, many companies online through which you can order personalised invitations. There are also free, download and print services available (although, bear in mind, you get what you pay for) and e-invitations if you want to save on paper and postage. Alternatively, you could go to your local store and purchase some pre-printed, non-personalised invitations.
If you really want to push the boat out, why not think of something completely novel to use as an invitation. For example, if you are having a murder mystery party, you could send a ‘newspaper article’ which details the case you’re going to solve and urge ‘witnesses’ to come forward on the time and date of your party, this adds a little extra fun to the proceedings and will get the ball rolling before the night even begins!

Your hen night is a fantastic opportunity to indulge your love for dressing up. Some people hate the idea of fancy dress, there are loads of us, however, who absolutely love it and there’s a whole world of things you can do – whether you tie in your dress code with your theme at large or let people come however they like, there is something out there for everyone. Here are some of my favourite, era-defined outfits:
20’s.
Flapper girls and gangsters, in 1920’s attire you can bring a bit of old-school glamour to your evening. 1920’s fashion just oozes style and sophistication. Think headbands, feather boas, cigarette holders and caberet. If that’s not your thing, pin striped suits and trilbies can look great on women as well as men.
50’s.
Polka dots and pop socks and good, old fashioned rock n’ roll. I adore 1950’s fashion and the look is really obtainable now it has found a bit of a resurgance on the high street. Gloves, pearls and swing skirts are a must as well as those all important heels. A 1950’s theme screams cute and fun and more importantly, looks amazing.
60’s.
Flower power and flares, the swinging sixties are all about bold prints and bright colours. Whether you choose to don your flares and your tie-dye t-shirts or risk a little bit more with a daring mini skirt, a 60’s theme screams fun, flirtation and flower power.
70’s.
Disco, disco, disco. Think shiny catsuits, wide flares and afro wigs. The 70s were very much about metallics so don your platforms and become a dancing queen for the night.
80’s.
Arguably the least successful era for fashion, it’s unmistakable (and fun!) nonetheless. Flash dance style leg warmers, shell suits and new-wave and punk are all great, instantly recognisable looks. Mullet wigs, perms, back combing and LOTS of hairspray will complete this distinctive look.

Everyone likes gifts, so how about letting your party know how much you appreciate them by making up some hen night party bags?
You can get some gorgeous bags online now, some already made-up or you could get imaginative and make your own, customising it to match your theme.
For a sophisticated hen party, get some beautiful bags either online or from your high street and fill them with goodies like spa treatments; hair and face masks, lips sticks and other makeup items so that your guests all show up at your wedding feeling refreshed and alluring. Obviously, this can end up being quite expensive, so if you are on a tight budget you should be careful not to overspend!
If that doesn’t sound right for you, you might want to fill bags with items that can be used on the night out itself. Head bands, sashes, tiaras and other fancy dress pieces are always popular, as are novelty items like cock straws and chocolates.
Confetti is always a good choice as if it isn’t used on the night, you can take it to the wedding to throw over the newly-weds, as are cameras as you will be providing everyone to capture both the hen night and wedding and be left with memories that will last for years to come.
Other ideas include shot and wine glasses (but be careful, because once the drink has been consumed these become VERY breakable), photo frames for that special picture of the party, balloons, party poppers, dice for drinking games and confectionary like love hearts and lollipops.
You might also want to put in something that reminds you specifically of the bride, like an embarrassing photo from a previous night out, or something that only your group will understand and will give you all laughs throughout the night.
